Out & About in Rockridge

If you, unlike me, don't have a midterm Monday and want to spend some sunny hours trolling around Rockridge, I recommend you go to Out & About in Rockridge. BARE's own Marcus Leung has put in a lot of effort putting together a massive runway show featuring a lot of Rockridge boutiques and brands and who doesn't like free food and fashion? Information here: www.rockridgeoutandabout.com.

Go go go!

shoes that blow my mind cont.

Oh Victoria Beckham, we can always trust you to do something absolutely ridiculous. The shoes from the earlier post lacked a front, and these shoes lack a heel. Maybe if we combine these two innovative concepts together, we find ourselves with...A FUCKING SHOE.

OBAMAMANIA!

Okay you don't have to sell Obama as a presidential candidate to me. I mean, come on.

That aside, I think his celebrity status has reached an entirely different level of what can only be described as "gnarliness". Buttons, pins, stickers, signs and the t-shirts, I accept you. Even this superfab tote bag, I could get on board with (although being designed by Rag & Bone puts a hefty $75 tag on it).

But Obama SNEAKERS?!?!?

Obama bracelets? At $100 each, half going to Obama's campaign?!?? Sure, but I'd rather buy myself a ticket to DC with $300 rather than wear it on my arm.

Juicy Couture designed "Dude Where's the Hope?" t-shirt or Vera Wang's absurdly ugly "Vote Obama '08" t-shirt, selling for $60 each??

I guess it's cool for celebrities and designers to get on the Obamatrain and I don't mind them lending their support at all. But some of this paraphernalia is just ridiculous. It's not like Obama needs more exposure and this type of stuff just lends itself to critics of Obama's "celebrity status" and "celebrity interests." And really, who are you trying to pitch a $75 tote bag to?? Come on now.

Emmy's

So in traditional blog fashion, I'm supposed to talk about OMGZwhattheywore!! to the Emmy's but let's face it, celebrities generally can't dress themselves and the Emmy's is a watered down fashion event anyways. As per tradition, most dresses were yawnsnoozeborehid with of course some exceptions by generally hot people.

By this, I mean Olivia Wilde and only her.

Everyone else is ugly and sucks. Like Eva Longoria. I hate her. I hate her so much. & it really fucking bothers me when celebrities that generally wear shitty clothes and have no fashion sense at all get to wear MYYYY favorite designers' clothes. Really? Some designers should just not allow their clothes to be worn by people. Like fashion eugenics. Ba-ha-ha-ha.

And yeah, so concludes my favorite Emmy's fashion. I wasn't kidding.

BARE party @ downtown. I'm such a fan of everything about his outfit.
Ignore the awfully taken picture, girls in heels and drinks equals rapid and imprecise movements.

OMG stunning.

Can i be you? Thanksssss.

I was gonna make this post relative to Berkeley by attempting to recreate it and giving some pointers or something. But I mean, half of the beauty is in her hair and makeup and FACE, and I'd have to become about 7x hotter and 500 shades paler. Not gonna happen. I think I also need $1000 more in my bank account in the off chance that those booties are YSL (which I'm not sure about because wtf @ the blue lining & soles). Also, if I attempted to wear my hair like that in public people would, you know, not really do anything about it.

It's absolutely stunning...

...how have I never seen it before??

Also, please ignore Kamila's waist. It's rather unbelievable and makes me really uncomfortable if i stare at it for too long. By the same token, please ignore Mrs. Parker's unfortunate hair, makeup, shoes and general misdemeanor. Fun fact: we share birthdays :)

Say you love me too...

I know everyone and their blogging mothers covet these but for the love of all things, ever, can i have them? Can i have them? Can i pleaaa-aaase? CHLOE BE MINE!

No, not the girl, although she's ridiculously cute. Actually the $1200 foot-covers she's trolling around in.

Would anyone in Berkeley ever be caught in $1200 shoes? Nah.

old school

I think it's time for an apology: sorry guys, I've been a horrible blogger. I was busy with visiting friends and boyfriends and MY BIRTHDAY but now everyone's gone and I'm 21 but I still look like I'm 12. Which kind of relates to this entry...

Last weekend I wore a really great outfit. It was perfect for fall, embodied at least three of this season's current fashion trends (I think... florals? purple and gold colors? velvet?) and comfortable. I got tons of compliments on my attire. A friend asked me where I had gotten my cardigan. And I responded, "Contempo Casuals, circa 1999."

Yep, I've had this cardigan since around 6th grade, maybe even earlier. Of course, I was even shorter then than I am now, so it fit me a little differently back then. It was probably an actual, slightly large jacket rather than a little shrunken cardigan. But I found it crumpled in the back of my closet, and thought I'd give it a try ... and now I have a great, unique velvet cardigan with little pearl buttons that looks perfect for fall.

The skirt isn't AS old - if I had the same waist size now as I did when I was 11, that would be frightening - but it's from 9th or 10th grade. I never wore the skirt back then, because I had never heard of the term "high waisted" and didn't like how it looked down on my hips (it was too long and school-marm-ish). BUT, I found this skirt, along with the jacket, in the back of my closet, and thought I could reinvent it. Sure enough, it looks great (if I may say so myself) worn as a high waisted skirt (not that it would fit on my hips anymore even if I wanted it to...) under a plain white tshirt.

I added some gold flats I picked up at target, and I was ready to go. I looked stylish and up to date, even though half my outfit was so five seasons ago (at least).

Do any of you wear clothes that you've had for years? I have a friend who wears a black skirt she had in high school as a tube top now (which sounds kind of slutty, but it's actually flowy and sophisticated). You don't have to be short like me to do this, either - dresses can become shirts, jackets can become cardigans, etc. If you're a broke college student like myself, try shopping in the back of your closet - you may be surprised.

(p.s. I took these pictures at the SF Exploratorium. I highly recommend you go there if you live in the Bay Area, if only for the tactile dome).

NYFW Wrap-up

I don't care what anyone says, London Fashion Week is just as an important fashion week as the others, because it really produces some edgy and unique collections. No its not as luxe or anticipated as Paris or Milan ones, but I enjoy it because it has something to offer in it's own right. That rant sort of took control of my fingertips because I originally just wanted to share some of my favorite collections from New York Fashion Week. Considering my lack of photoshop proficiency makes this process quite tedious, my list is not extensive, and I haven't been able to include a lot of usual favorites like Marc, Wang, Oscar de la Renta or Marchesa, whose collections were ALL absofucking stunning. That aside, some other designers really stood out to me...

PREEN

Doo.Ri

Stærk

Sabyasachi

One of my favorite new discoveries is Toni Maticevski, which I sort of accidentally stumbled upon on NYMag since he's not on my usual go-to list on style.com. The beginning of the collection didn't do much for me but the gowns and dresses in the latter half of his collection are OMW stunning...

I mean, add to the list Rodarte, Narciso Rodriguez, BCBG & 3.1 Phillip Lim and maybe we're a little bit closer to achieving some sort of comprehensive list. I can't wait to see what's coming in the next few weeks!

In the summertime when the weather is hot...

in other news...
how much fun does THAT look?

Restaurant Review: Ramblas Tapas

I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain. So this post may be biased as I have a weakness for all things Spanish. But it's also good because I'm very critical and snobbish in regards to Spanish food and drink - I've been there and chances are I've had it better there. That aside, I was thoroughly pleased with Ramblas Tapas, located in the Mission. The food was authentic and they had the staples like patatas bravas and fried calamari. We didn't get to try paella but based off how good the tapas are, I'm determined to go back and try it. And my most favorite moment ever - discovering they had CLARA!!!!!!!! A typically Spanish drink is mixing regular cerveza with lemon Fanta to create a lemony beer. Pretty easy to DIY, if you can get a hold of a lemon Fanta.

All in all, a delicious and unique restaurant option in SF.

just purchased!!!!

say hello to my new lovelies...

frye riding boots.

!!

I've been coveting them forever. They are absolutely perfect for winter, although I'm still not sure if you can wear leather boots in the rain (??). The part that makes me absolutely giddy though, is the fact that I found them at a thrift store for about 1000% off. In the men's section.

Word.

not Berkeley related I know, but....

Fashion Week is here!!
Fashion Week is here!!@#$*(@!

Glorious new girls, new styles, new colors, new shapes and designers!
And another distraction in lecture. Huzzah!

Okay so I know it's only Friday, but I'm already pretty pleased. BCBG was beautiful, although I have to admit I'm generally a fan - think beyond prom dress shopping senior year. Maybe I'm most excited I got to see Edita. I love Edita. God loves Edita...

BCBG was a lot of flowy shapes, one shouldered drapings - some Grecian influence. It reminded me a lot of Rami's work from Project Runway. I would wear most of their dresses in a heartbeat.

I actually liked all the collections from today. Rachel Roy was sober yet flirty, mixing structured tailored suit jackets with loose pantsuits and separates and mixing short minidresses with long flowy ones. & the shoes!

Trovata and Sue Stempt weren't really my favorites but I would really love to see someone rocking this Sue Stempt pantsuit...

Eagerly, eagerly awaiting more...

pop pop POP!

Hi lovelies. My name is Fiona and I’m a 4th year Polisci student blah blah blah. More importantly, I've got an undying and somewhat unhealthy obsession with all things fashion and pop culture. Go on, ask me, ask me anything… Anyways, my picture is taken in Cinque Terre, Italy, which is easily the most beautiful place I've ever been. While studying abroad, I got a whole new perspective on fashion, mainly of European fashion pwnage. My style is neither here nor there, just what fits my mood that day, and I’d like to consider myself something of a fashion chameleon.

Hi, I'm Katie, and I swear I'm not as pretentious as I look in this picture. This is me on the steps of a museum (MALBA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I studied abroad last semester. My friend and I decided to take a photo shoot in the middle of the night because we were bored, which pretty much sums up my "fashion psychology": I can be silly, and I love black tights. If I had to describe my style in two words it would be "S&M grandma" because I am obsessed with anything black, studded, and/or leather, as well as sequins and poofy dresses.

Now you know a little bit about us and I'm sure you'll learn more than you ever wanted to over the course of this blog. Either way, we are excited to share with you are musings, style choices, fashion opinions and curious Berkeley tidbits. Kisses...
